Excavation and other types of fieldwork are core activities for most archaeologists. How does the practice of archaeology change when the world shuts down? In this panel two UC Berkeley archaeologists describe how the pandemic challenged them to find creative ways to continue to do archaeology over the past year. Professor Kim Shelton will discuss her virtual field season and a "remote" rescue excavation. Anthropology graduate student Lucy Gill will present a participatory mapping project she is developing for documenting sites remotely in Panama.
