ARF Field School 2026
This summer we conducted the 2026 ARF Archaeology Field School at Peralta Historical Park! We expanded a unit from the 2024 season and encountered more 20th century refuse.
Welcome Note from New ARF Director Kim Shelton
Welcome back to the ARF community! I would like to introduce myself as the new director of ARF. But before I do that, on behalf of our whole community, I would like to thank Christine Hastorf for her unparalleled leadership and generous contributions as ARF director. I know that we all wish her a fantastic and well-deserved retirement yet will be thrilled to continue to see her around the building. I look forward to my new role here at ARF and to supporting the community as we develop in many directions into the future.
Professor Hastorf wins AIA award
The award, bestowed by the Archaeological Institute of America, celebrates her groundbreaking research on early settled life in the Andean highlands and the profound connections between plants and humans. Congratulations, Christine!

Guitty Azarpay (1934-2024)
We regret to announce that ARF Faculty Affiliate Emerita Guitty Azarpay has passed away.
As shared by the department of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures, Professor Azarpay was member of the department between 1964 and 1994 (continuing as active emerita for another decade), who passed away in early April 2024.
